Short Biography

DATO’ DR JESSIE TANG, the Founder and Group CEO of East West One Group (EWOG) – an established entrepreneur who ventured into the palm oil plantation industry in Sabah in early 2000. Under her leadership, the group’s business has expanded regionally into Indonesia, specifically in the agriculture and in the mining industries. Prior to establishing EWOG, she was a medical doctor.

In public service, Dato’ Dr. Jessie was conferred the honorary title of Dato ’ in year 2003, by the Sultan of Kedah, Malaysia, in recognition of her contribution to the state of Kedah. In July 2020, the Prime Minister of Malaysia appointed Dato’ Dr Jessie, as a member of the National Unity Advisory Council at the national level, to advise the government on matters related to national unity and national reconciliation.

Dato’ Dr. Jessie is no stranger to corporate Malaysia, and is often featured in media publications, regionally and internationally. In 2018, she was awarded the Winner of the Agriculture Industry in Malaysia by the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award (APEA); the Brand Laureate Inspiring Brand ICON Leadership Award 2018; and the Brand Laureate Brand Founder Legacy Award 2018-2019 by the Asia Pacific Brand Foundation (APBF).

In her personal capacity, Dato’ Dr. Jessie has particular interest to promote nation-building, gender equality and women’s empowerment; to enhance the well-being of senior citizens. At the regional level, she serves as a founding member of the Nation-Building Institute International (NBII), a prominent Thailand based think tank. She is also serving on numerous boards including the Women’s Institute of Management (WIM) Malaysia as Deputy CEO, on the governing board of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER); and KSI Board Member. She is also an appointed Council Member of the Malaysian Estate Owners’ Association (MEOA). Being a sharp shooter and a martial artist, she is the chairman and patron of the Kobe Osaka International Karate Association. Delighted to be conferred the ASEAN Woman Business Leader of the Year Award 2020, she envisions to strengthen women’s entrepreneurship in the region.
